Michael is a Senior Consultant (Geotechnical Engineering) with over 30 years’ international experience in the extractive industries specialising in open pit geotechnical engineering. Michael has extensive experience in the practical application of geotechnical engineering to assist safe and efficient open pit mining. He has specific expertise in rock mass characterisation, stability analysis, slope engineering and risk management. He has managed geotechnical and hydrogeological teams in a range of mining environments and ground conditions. In addition, he has experience of real-time slope monitoring systems for large open pits, as well as developing site-specific procedures to proactively inform slope management. Michael is conversant with 3D modelling and has extensive experience using specialist limit equilibrium and finite element software for open pit slope design and stability analysis. Michael has worked on base-, precious-metal, and coal projects in the UK, Africa, Australia, Mongolia and Laos.
